A few years ago - when I didn't know much about hiking at all - I hiked Tahquitz Peak, which is the mountain next to Suicide Rock. When we got to the top, one of the ladies that hiked with me recommended Suicide Rock. But... as mentioned, back then I didn't know as much about hiking. In fact, I didn't have enough water for the Tahquitz Peak hike, felt like I was gonna die and fell on the way back down. So all in all it was not the best experience, so I never intended to come back.

Fast forward 5 years and here we are. Not even half way through the year and I have clocked more than 245 miles (yes, I have a hiking tracker on my homepage). So, I decided to give Suicide Rock another shot. And let me tell you, it was an amazing surprise! The drive to Idyllwild was beautiful, with mountains surrounding us. Living near the ocean, mountains and woods always excite me.

We arrived at the trailhead and got ready to hike the Deer Springs Trail. It took us through beautiful forests, offering a peaceful escape from everyday life. The scent of pine trees filled the air, reminding us of nature's beauty. Just be aware: as you start on the trail you will get to a big sign announcing you needing a day pass. So before you start your hike, head to the Ranger Station where you can get a free pass easily.

Back to the hike, the trail started uphill, testing our endurance and determination. But with some experience, the elevation gain was just right. The stunning views motivated us to keep going, with valleys and distant peaks revealing themselves at every step. Birds chirping, leaves rustling in the breeze, and small animals scurrying created a harmonious melody. But don't try to count the lizards (because there are too many), and rather watch out for woodpeckers.

After a decent climb, we finally reached the top of Suicide Rock. The view was breathtaking. Rolling hills, green valleys, and distant peaks stretched as far as we could see. It was a moment of serenity and gratitude for the natural world. The perfect spot for a break and well-deserved snack ;)

Standing on Suicide Rock, I thought about my journey. I realized how much I had grown since my previous hiking experience. By learning and persevering, I had transformed into a seasoned adventurer. The beauty of Suicide Rock symbolized personal triumph and the power of overcoming challenges.

Clearly, hiking Suicide Rock via Deer Springs Trail exceeded my expectations!

Happy Trails, everyone!
